The Louisiana Association of Substance Abuse Counselors and Trainers (LASACT) presented the I CARE Program with the Louisiana Prevention Service Provider of the Year Award at its July 29–August 1, 2012 conference in Marksville, Louisiana. This award is given to a recipient for outstanding service in the field of prevention, delivering innovative programs in prevention, staffing with licensed prevention professionals and fulfilling a mission of prevention similar to the mission of LASACT. LASACT Executive Director Marolon Mangham officially presented the award to the I CARE Advisory Council Chairperson, Lyman Thornton, at its meeting on September 10, 2012. I CARE wasnominated by Bill Blanchard.
We are pleased that our program has yet again been recognized for the work that we do to serve our schools and community.
In addition, Licensed Prevention Professional Gwynn Shamlin was awarded the coveted Louisiana Prevention Professional of the Year Award for outstanding work in the field of prevention. Mr. Shamlin was recognized for his continual efforts and skills to deliver prevention services to his schools and students. In addition to serving his public schools, Shamlin serves all of the participating non-public schools, is active in evaluation and research, is innovative in developing peer leadership programs and still finds time to be an exemplary parent. Mr. Shamlin was nominated by I CARE Director Becky Young.
