Red Ribbon

Equipping students for a healthy, safe, and drug-free future

Red Ribbon Week is October 17-25, 2009

Red Ribbon Week is one of the oldest and largest national drug prevention campaigns in existence. Although the start and end dates can vary slightly depending on the organization and source, Red Ribbon Week generally takes place the last full week in October, with the weekends before and following the last full week included as appropriate celebration dates. This coming year Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated October 17-25, 2009.

Red Ribbon Week provides an opportunity for schools, communities, individuals and businesses to take a stand through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug-free lives with the ultimate goal being the creation of a drug-free America.

And, perhaps more importantly, Red Ribbon Week commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffikers in Mexico while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe.

Our community celebrates Red Ribbon Week in many ways.  The East Baton Rouge Parish School System and the Metro Council of Baton Rouge will proclaim October Red Ribbon Month at their meetings.  Many local businesses and other organizations will recognize Red Ribbon Month on their marquees and through other forms of announcement.

I CARE invites you to recognize Red Ribbon Month in October!!
